A SPN (Suspect Parameter Number) represents the identity of aJ1939parameter. It is assigned to each parameter of a parameter group or component. Every J1939 parameter has a unique SPN, which is 19-bits wide, assigned to it by the SAE committee when the parameter is defined. It is used for diagnostic purpose to report and identify abnormal operation of a Controller Application.
