How can I send RS232 messages to a Squarell Device?

RS232 messages can be sent to our devices using a RS232 terminal program. We advise the Docklight software which is available below this post. Please refer to the Squarell RS232 protocol description for all implemented RS232 messages.

Once you’ve installed Docklight you can open the program and start with a ‘blank project’. Be aware that this is a free evaluation copy of Docklight. For the use of full functionalities you'll need to buy a license. First you’ll need to setup the correct COM port and baudrate. This can be done by double-clicking on the ‘COM2’ in the top-right of the screen. You’re now able to connect Docklight to the Squarell device.
To send a message to the Squarell device, you need to double-click on the white line below ‘Name’ on the left side of the screen.

The screen that appears after, you can compose your message. Be sure that the ‘Edit Mode’ is set to ASCII.

1. Name --> Create a name for your sequence (this will not influence the message itself).
2. Sequence --> Key in the message you would like to send.

IMPORTANT: The termination character, carriage return <CR> and line feed <LF>, need to be entered in Docklight using the below key combinations:
Carriage return <CR> :        CTRL + ENTER
Line feed <LF> :                  CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER

By clicking on OK, the new message appears in the main screen. You can send the message by clicking on the “--->” button.
The device should answer like in the example below.
